– Originated from Germany, it is known as three major design awards in the world, together with German “IF Award” and American “IDEA Award”.
– It is universally acknowledged as the international recognition of creativity and design. The award is a testimony to the most prestigious “quality assurance”.
Red Dot Design Award, “the industrial design Oscar”, recently published this year’s list of award winners. With excellent design concept and powerful performance, Tuoshou? surgical robot, which was independently developed by Tuodao Medical, stood out from nearly 10,000 entries and won the high recognition from more than 50 global judges. This is also the world’s first orthopedic surgical robot to receive this award.
“During the several-day-long assessment of this year’s Red Dot Design Award, professional jury panel from all over the world evaluated a considerable number of products. Entries from all over the world, which set a record for Red Dot Design Award entries in history, were scrutinized and underwent professional assessment. A thorough evaluation was made in terms of design quality and the level of innovation. Winning this award means that every detail of the product has been thoroughly and consistently considered. The fact that NS100 Tuoshou? stood out from such a strong group of participants is a testament to the exceptional quality of its product design.”
– Dr. Peter Zec (Founder and CEO of Red Dot), Jury of the Red Dot Design Award
Tuoshou? orthopedic surgical robot is used for open or percutaneous spine surgery, which will help to position the surgical instruments with the assistance of a robotic arm. It is composed of a six-degree-of-freedom robot arm, an optical tracking system, a surgical master control and operation support platform, and a navigation software system, which can help surgeons visualize surgical planning and surgical channel positioning to improve surgical precision, reduce surgical trauma, and reduce intraoperative radiation.
This product enables the full integration of robots and intraoperative imaging devices in data, control and workflow. The closed-loop robot system will autonomously complete system registration, relieving doctors of efforts and resources in learning, simplifying the process of using surgical robots, and improving the efficiency and consistency of robot-assisted surgery.
Tuoshou? Robotic System in Orthopaedic Surgery can assist the surgeons to accurately complete channel establishment in the internal fixation operation (pedicle screw fixation) and various types of spinal decompression, fusion and augmentation procedures. The first parallel controlled clinical trial of orthopedic surgical robot in China has been completed. The results showed that the clinical precision, surgical effect (excellent rate of screw placement), and image display clarity were all better than similar control products.
At present, 1 vertebral fracture occurs every 3 seconds worldwide, with a five-year mortality rate of 34%, resulting in 4 million deaths every five years. It can only be cured by surgery. However, the surgery can’t be done without highly qualified doctors and high-end medical equipment. On one hand, the extreme scarcity of these resources has resulted in more than 200 million patients not being properly treated. On the other hand, the patients who have been treated still suffer from inevitable sequelae due to the large incisions and high radiation levels.
In response, we designed this product to allow patients to equally share high-end medical resources. We hope to use groundbreaking technologies to break the dependence on high-value medical devices. For doctors, the radiation is dramatically reduced and they no longer need to endure 8-12 times the normal risk of developing a cancer. Therefore, their work of healing and saving lives is no longer a burden; for the industry, we have created a technology platform that empowers minimally invasive surgery to more departments.
Nanjing Tuodao Medical Technology Co., Ltd is committed to producing series of products with surgical robots at the core by continuously expanding and breaking through the underlying robot technologies. We will work hard to apply intelligent technology, empower the future of medical care, and make surgery easier with robots. Tuodao Medical has delved into the characteristics and requirements of different departments and surgical procedures. We have developed a strategic plan with focuses on five major fields related to surgical robots. Based on data structure and algorithms, artificial intelligence, high precision and intelligent control as well as other cutting-edge technologies, we will continuously improve the surgical experience of doctors and patients as well as the treatment effect. There are currently 9 products in development, 2 of which are expected to be put into commercial use by 2022. Based in Nanjing, Tuodao Medical has established R&D centers in Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Singapore, which form a systematic R&D system. By the end of 2021, there will be more than 200 employees. And more than 60% of them will be R&D staff, among whom over 40% will hold a doctor’s or master’s degree.
